Bimetallic barrel is like a tube and completely filled with a powered metal. There are different types of bimetallic barrels available which are used for various purposes such as extrusion, injection molding and blow molding machinery. The usage of bimetallic barrel provides a protective wear surface to improve the wear life.
Types of bimetallic barrels at EJS:

Alloy power used for bimetallic barrels:
Iron-based alloy powder for general application.
Nickel-based alloy powder with customized Tungsten for anti-wearing.
Base steel used for bimetallic barrels are 40Cr. After years of manufacturing bimetallic barrels, we found 40Cr has the best performance doing bimetallic. When some customers request other steels, we believe base steel is not vital on the barrel life---when the bimetallic barrel layer is worn out, it’s time to get a new barrel.
For bimetallic barrels, bimetallic process takes a big part in the cost structure, therefore it’s better to get a new barrel when the carbide liner is worn out, other than re-do the lining work for the old barrel.
Question: can you make all barrels bimetallic barrels?
Not really. Bimetallic barrels production has a request on barrel walls, if the barrel is too thin, it’s not possible to make it bimetallic barrel.
